April 2009 - Whitianga Festival of Speed

...it was all happening in Whitianga. Now before some smartypants emails me and says "oh you're just glorifying a petrol-headed waste of fuel"...well you're right! But let's not forget the purpose though. It's machines like these that push the envelope of what we as humans are capable of engineering. The way it works is this: Engineers and scientists spend countless hours researching and developing new ways of solving problems using the latest technology. This technology is then handed on to what is known as the "willy waving" stage. The technology is tested in cutting edge machines by guys who are basically waving their willies at each other yelling "hey my car/boat/motorbike/jetski is faster than yours..therefore, my willy is bigger than yours!". They take it very seriously. The best technology invariably wins, somebody gets the biggest willy wave of all, and then these ideas are incorporated into common household items. So remember next time you are using your non stick frypan, that a lot of willy waving went on to bring the end product to you. I have no idea where I was going with that. Anyway, Whitianga was great fun, I hope to be there next year! Check out the Marine section for more stills of the event, the shots are for sale. Don't even think about trying to rip them from this site, they are copyrighted and if you try my lawyer will bash you round the head with a long lens!
